The official name of Uruguay is “República Oriental del Uruguay” and is located in the Southern Cone of South America. It limits to the north and northeast with Brazil, to the west with Argentina, to the south and southeast with the Rio de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean. Uruguay has 176,215 km2 of extension and a population of 3,300,000 inhabitants. The literacy rate is 97%. The climate is maritime temperate without extreme temperatures between 0 degrees Celsius in the winter (June to August) and 35 degrees Celsius in the summer (December to February). Spring and autumn are the most beautiful months of the year with temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Uruguay’s economy is based on agriculture and livestock and is surrounded by neighboring agricultural countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile in the region.

Uruguay has a cosmopolitan society as a result of successive European immigration. It has an open society with elected democratic government with free elections every five years and promotes the tolerance of all religions and political ideas as well as non-discrimination.
